First, when you buy the oil, ensure that you check the oil’s container. Most containers are labeled with;
The oil’s viscosity. Its represented by 00W00. The numbers on the right represents the oil’s viscosity during a cold engine start. The less the number, the higher the oil’s capacity to flow when engine is starts. The number on the right side of the W represents the oil’s viscosity during normal engine operation temperature. The higher the number the more the oil is effective when the engine is running.
The Engine’s Fuel Specifications. Markings on the container show if the oil is meant for diesel or gasoline engines. The diesel engines go well with oil that has CK-4, CJ-4, CI-4, CH-4 and FA-4 markings on the container. As for the gasoline engines, the SP, SN, SM, SL and SJ markings help to identify the right fit.
Engine Power. Further, the oil container shows if the oil should be used according to the engine’s manufacturers specifications. Meaning that some engines are high performance while others are not. So you will notice that some oil containers are marked with high performance, high mileage, off-road cars and heavy duty cars. Make sure you look for this before making a decision.
Unique properties for each engine oil.

The mineral oil was here since engines were discovered. But it’s quality has come a long way since back then. Though it shouldn’t be used with engines that have high performance modifications. So it’s safe to assume that there won’t be such a label on any mineral oil container.
The refining of petroleum brings about the production of mineral oil. Making it somewhat thicker than the other types of oils. Hence the reason why, waiting for the engine to warm-up was encouraged in older engine models. This ”warming up” was supposed to allow the oil and engine coolant to circulate the engine block before take off.
Based on the oils properties, extreme temperatures tend to disrupt it’s composition. Meaning that if it’s too cold, the oil flows slower than usual and the vise versa. Additionally, you need to undertake more oil changes when you are using this type of oil. Because it’s oxidation properties are a bit low, mineral oil does a good job of cleaning the engine but it tends to accumulate contaminants.
Semi synthetic oil.
This is a blend of two types of oils. That is, the full synthetic and the mineral oil. This gives the semi-synthetic oil the chance to provide characteristics of both oils. Further, modifications are made during the mixture to boost the semi synthetic oil’s properties. Hence making it a balance between affordability and quality performance.
This oil ensures that the engine is protected from friction which leads to wear and tear. It does this through it’s powerful lubrication that allows it to flow even during extreme weather conditions. It also fits the variety of engines either new or old as well as performance engines.
Further you don’t have to worry about regular oil changes. There are no negative effects of toping up this Semi synthetic oil but eventually, you will need an oil change after a reasonable mileage.
Full synthetic oil.
This type of oil is modified with an aim of achieving a goal to serve engines much better. The oil’s oxygen capacity is very high meaning the number of oil changes it requires are very minimal. The fully synthetic oil offers high performance in terms of lubrication, engine protection and engine cleanup. But even though it has all these good qualities, it is not recommended for all engines. Mostly, it is used for high performance engines. Finally, the amount of finances required to purchase it are substantially high when compared to the other types of oil.
